Elephant Mountain Trail Runs take place at Cave Creek Regional Park in Cave Creek, Arizona. The event offers the following distances:
- 50 Mile
- 50K
- 35K
- 22K
- 12K
- 6K
Courses use single-track trails and dirt roads in Cave Creek Regional Park, the Maricopa Trail, Tonto National Forest, and Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area. Typical trail surfaces include rocks, sand, cactus and gravel. The 50 Mile route continues north past Spur Cross into Tonto National Forest and returns via the Maricopa Trail. The 50K and 35K include single track out to Spur Cross and a loop through the park. The 6K and 12K remain inside Cave Creek Regional Park.
Course details and logistics
Aid stations are placed every 3-7 miles and supply water, an electrolyte drink, sweet and salty snacks, and fruit. Additional food options are available at Spur Cross, Seven Springs, and Go John II for longer distances. The event is cupless; reusable cups will be available at registration or participants may bring their own. Drop bags are allowed for the 50 Mile and 50K at Spur Cross and for 50 Milers also at Seven Springs; 35K runners have no remote drop bag. Crews may access start/finish, Spur Cross, and Seven Springs (for 50 Mile). Pacers are permitted at Seven Springs and Spur Cross II for the 50 Mile; pacers were not allowed for the 50K in 2025. Cutoffs require 50 Mile runners to depart specific aid stations at posted cutoffs; overall time limits are 16 hours for the 50 Mile and 15 hours for the 50K. Courses are marked with colored signs per distance and with orange ribbons for general wayfinding. Park entry fee applies per vehicle. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
