Event
The ASF 5K is a partial trail run held in March that uses a looped route beginning and ending at Brocks Gap Brewery and passing around Black Creek Mountain Bike Park. The course distance is 5.56k. The race includes regular divisions (male and female, no extra weight), heavy divisions (male and female, required to carry a 35 lb vest or ruck), and a Team Heavy division (four people, each carrying a 35 lb vest or ruck and required to finish together). Headlamps or flashlights are required for the nighttime trail sections.
Logistics and rules
The event is limited to 300 runners. Age eligibility is 10 years and older. The race proceeds rain or shine. All heavy vests and rucks will be weighed after the race; failure to meet the 35 lb requirement disqualifies a participant from awards. Strollers are not allowed because of trail sections. Parking is provided at Hoover Met only; Brocks Gap Brewery parking is restricted to handicapped use, with a path and stairs from the parking lot to the brewery. Restrooms are available at Brocks Gap Brewery and at the start line. One water station is located at the entrance to the trail. Bib and bag pick-up are available the night before and on race day; race day registration is available but event items are not guaranteed. Participants among the first 300 will receive a t-shirt, finisher medal, and koozie. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
