Badwater 135
The Badwater 135 Ultramarathon, hosted by AdventureCORPS, is globally recognized as the world's toughest foot race. It covers a grueling 135 miles (217 km) non-stop from Badwater Basin in Death Valley, California—the lowest point in North America at 282 feet below sea level—to Whitney Portal at 8,360 feet, the trailhead to Mt. Whitney, the highest peak in the contiguous U.S.
The course traverses three mountain ranges with a cumulative ascent of 14,600 feet and descent of 6,100 feet, passing landmarks like Furnace Creek, Devil’s Golf Course, and Lone Pine. Competitors face extreme heat and elevation changes, with a 48-hour time limit to finish. The race is invitational, featuring up to 100 elite endurance athletes worldwide, supported by crews, and awards finishers with a coveted belt buckle.
