Bear Triathlon : event overview
The Bear Triathlon takes place May 16-17, 2026 in Bear, Delaware at Lums Pond State Park, Area 1. The event is sanctioned by USA Triathlon and offers Sprint, Olympic and Youth races. Relay teams of two or three people are allowed for adult distances. Registration opens Friday, Nov 14, 2025. The swim uses a beach entry in Lums Pond with inflatable course markers; water temperature is expected between about 68 and 75 degrees. The bike course is flat on paved roads and is open to vehicle traffic. The run course uses asphalt and natural surfaces with two aid stations on the triathlon course.

Distances:
- Sprint: 750 meter swim, 10 mile bike, 3 mile run
- Olympic: 1500 meter swim, 23 mile bike, 6 mile run
- Youth: 7-8 yr swim 50 yd, bike 2 mi, run 0.5 mi
- Youth: 9-10 yr swim 100 yd, bike 2 mi, run 0.5 mi
- Youth: 11-12 yr swim 100 yd, bike 4 mi, run 1 mi
- Youth: 13-15 yr swim 150 yd, bike 6 mi, run 1 mi
Athletes must pick up their own packet in person; participants 18 and older must show a valid photo ID. Packet items include a wristband, adhesive bike number, ankle timing chip and race bib. The wristband is required to enter the restricted transition area. Athletes must wear the ankle timing chip during the event. Competitors must follow USAT wetsuit temperature rules and obey course signage and traffic laws. Limited bike support will be available for flat changes; major repairs are the athlete’s responsibility. Results will be published live.
