The 20th Annual Beaufort River Swim and 5K Run
The event takes place on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park, Bay Street, Beaufort, SC 29902. Event options include:
- 3.2-mile River Swim
- 1-mile Swim
- 3.2-mile Swim plus 5K Run (single participant)
- 1-mile Swim plus 5K Run (single participant)
- 3.2-mile Swim / 5K Run relay
- 1-mile Swim / 5K Run relay
All proceeds benefit the Wardle Family YMCA Learn to Swim program.
Course, safety and participant rules
The 3.2-mile swim starts at Safe Harbor Port Royal Landing Marina and finishes at the day dock adjacent to the Beaufort Waterfront Park. The 1-mile swim starts at the Beaufort Memorial Hospital dock and finishes at the same location. Both swims proceed with the tide and are marked by large yellow buoys; surface conditions may range from calm to choppy. The 5K run follows the waterfront park, crosses Woods Memorial swing bridge, continues down Meridian Road to a turnaround, and returns to finish along the seawall. Woods Memorial Bridge is not closed for the event and may open during the run.
Safety is provided by the Beaufort Search and Rescue Squadron with kayakers and safety vessels monitoring the course. Participants must follow safety personnel directions. Age minimums apply: 1-mile swimmers must be at least 10 years old and 3.2-mile swimmers at least 13. Headphones and swim-enhancing equipment are not permitted. Wet suits are allowed but make swimmers ineligible for awards. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
