Bird-in-Hand Half Marathon
The Bird-in-Hand Half Marathon, held in Lancaster County Amish Country, offers runners a unique experience through lush countryside and historic Amish farmland. Participants can choose between a half marathon and a 5K, with a special Fire Company Challenge for those running both races. The course features rolling hills, grazing cattle, horse-drawn buggies, and a notable "Valley of No Wires" area, showcasing an off-the-grid Plain Community.
The event emphasizes community spirit, with aid stations staffed by local families, including stops in authentic Amish one-room schoolhouses. Runners earn a distinctive horseshoe medal reflecting the area's heritage, and festivities include a Friday bonfire and a post-race picnic. Proceeds support the local Hand-in-Hand Fire Company.
