Blackwater Canyon Half Marathon
The Blackwater Canyon Half Marathon is a scenic point-to-point race held in West Virginia, running from Thomas to Parsons along the Blackwater Canyon railroad grade and Allegheny Highlands Trail. The 13.1-mile course features pavement, dirt, and crushed stone surfaces, with a net descent of about 1,400 feet. The race supports the Highlands Trail Foundation, dedicated to trail development in the Potomac Highlands.
Limited to 200 runners, the event includes aid stations with hydration and snacks, and is a cupless race encouraging runners to carry their own cups or bottles. Awards include handmade mugs and hydration packs, with additional swag like gender-specific shirts and locally made finisher tokens. A shuttle bus transports participants from Parsons to the start in Thomas.
The race also offers the Black-Hel Double challenge in conjunction with the Helvetia 10k Mountain Run. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
