Event overview
The Cat's Tail Marathon is an approximately 26 mile point-to-point trail race held in the Slide Mountain Wilderness Area of the Catskills on 9/26/26. The course is described as hilly, rugged, and technical, with almost 7,000 ft of elevation gain. It summits four Catskills High Peaks, including Slide, Cornell, and Wittenberg, and passes features such as Giant Ledge, Cross Mountain, Mount Pleasant, and Romer Mountain. Descents on the course are noted as more challenging than the climbs.
Entry and other information
Entry requires prior trail experience: completion of a trail race of marathon distance or longer within the last two years, within the race time limit and taking no more than twice the winning time. As an alternative qualification, finishing the Escarpment Trail Run in under six hours within the last two years also qualifies. Participant numbers are limited by the NYS-DEC because the race runs in a designated wilderness area. Proceeds support Run Wild, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that works on land conservation. Photo galleries and past results are maintained for the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
