Event overview
The Chase the Elf 5k & 10k is an inaugural, Christmas themed race on December 20, 2025 in Markham, Illinois. The event benefits the Toy Box Connection children’s charity. Runners can enter two chip timed distances:
- 5k
- 10k
The 10k uses the 5k course twice. Each race will feature a race elf that receives a one minute thirty second head start; runners who finish before their elf receive a special prize. A long sleeve shirt is included with registration. There is also a kids race for children age 8 and younger, and Santa will visit to hear children’s Christmas wishes.
Race logistics and awards
Registration prices listed are $35 for the 5k and $40 for the 10k, with a price increase after December 6, 2025. Packet pickup is scheduled for Friday, December 19 and on race morning starting at 7:30 AM; the Friday pickup location will be announced later. A gear check will be available and participants are asked to keep valuables safe.
Chip timed results will be posted live online at ilpreptoptiming.com and on the race website. Awards are given to the top 3 overall and the top 3 males and females in these age groups: 14 & under; 15-19; 20-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65-69; 70 & older. There will be no awards ceremony; awards must be picked up at the race site and will not be mailed. A Secret Santa gift exchange option is available via wrapped running-related gifts turned in at packet pickup. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
