Course, awards and fundraising
The 5K is a trail run that follows the same course used for cross-country events at the preserve. Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each age group, with age groups in 10-year increments. All finishers receive a race shirt, snacks and drinks. Runners and walkers are welcome. New features for this year include improved course marking, course marshals, and the option to select a family-friendly song to be added to the event playlist and possibly played as participants cross the finish (selection not guaranteed).
Proceeds support Circles Douglas County, a program that matches families with mentors who provide training in personal finance, employment and communication skills. Fundraising options listed by the organizer include donations during registration, a Phantom Runner option that receives a shirt without attending, donor contributions, and sponsor levels with shirt recognition for donations of $100 or more.
