Cow Chip Classic Run/Walk : overview
The Cow Chip Classic Run/Walk takes place on Saturday, September 5, 2026, in Prairie Du Sac, Wisconsin. The event is the 45th annual running and is held in conjunction with the Wisconsin State Cow Chip Throw on Labor Day weekend. The race is sponsored by the Sauk Prairie Community Club and proceeds are donated back to the community. Registration for the events opens February 5, 2026. Course, services, and awards
All racers begin in Prairie du Sac and cross the Wisconsin River. The 10K route includes a climb referred to as "Heartbreak Hill" and passes Lake Wisconsin Golf Course before returning to town. The 5K route turns onto Golf Road for an out-and-back into town. The race uses chip timing with transponder chips attached to the race bib. No animals are allowed on the race course or in the park. Age divisions are set from 0-14, then in five-year brackets through 70, and 70+ for both males and females. Plaques are awarded to winners and medals to second and third place finishers. Post-race refreshments and snacks are provided, and restrooms and showers are available. Packet pickup and registration are held at Marion Park near the pool and at the race site.
