The Cross Country Sundown Showdown is scheduled for July 17, 2026, in Carterville, Illinois. The event is listed as the 1st Annual Sundown Showdown and features an 5K cross country race. Course and competition
The event is organized as a team-style cross country meet that uses standard cross country scoring and finishing positions to calculate team scores. Teams may be formed and consist of three to five runners; individuals may also run without a full team. Awards are planned for the top 20 female and top 20 male finishers, and for the top team in each division: Male, Female, and Mixed. The course surface is mostly grass with some gravel and paved path sections. Mile markers on the course will be painted - Mile 1 red, Mile 2 white, Mile 3 blue - and a lead vehicle will guide runners through the course.
