The event awards a finisher’s medal, a technical (Dri-FIT) event shirt, and uses chip timing. Results are posted live on Athlinks and final results with series points are posted the Monday after the race. The race benefits City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue, a nonprofit that rescues animals from overcrowded, under-resourced shelters and places them in adoptive homes. A virtual race option is available.
Course and logistics
Both races follow an out-and-back route along the C&O Canal on a light gravel dirt road with minimal elevation change. Walkers and strollers are permitted. Water stations are placed at approximately mile 1.5 for the 5k, and at approximately miles 1.5, 3.1, and 4.6 for the 10k; Gatorade is available at some stations. Packet pickup is available at the event; participants are advised to arrive about one hour before their event start time to check in. There is no on-site race registration. Awards are given to the top three men and women overall and to first and second place male and female in age groups from 19 & under through 70+; top three overall finishers are not eligible for age-group awards. Parking is available along Water Street; the Potomac Boat Club address (3530 Water St NW) and GPS pin 38.904338, -77.070138 are provided for navigation.
