Denali 50K - Event overview
The Denali 50K is a crew-supported ultramarathon held on the Denali Highway in Alaska. The 2026 edition is scheduled for June 21, 2026. The event is limited to 50 runners and their crews and pacers. Runners have a maximum of 9 hours to complete the course. Finishers who complete the course within the allotted time receive a finishers medal and shirt; there are also overall men's and women's awards.
Registration opens September 19, 2025 and closes May 1, 2026 or when the 50-runner limit is reached. Applicants must submit qualifying race results by the registration deadline. Qualifying requirements state completion of at least three marathons in the previous two years, including one trail marathon, or demonstration of equivalent training. Registration fees are non-refundable; deferments to the next year may be granted at the race director's discretion. Runners receive a race information package and crew and pacer rules after acceptance.
Course, support and equipment
The course begins at Maclaren Summit (Mile 37 from Paxson) and descends northwest toward the Maclaren River, passing Thermokarst, eskers and kettle lakes left by glacial melting. The single aid station is at Clearwater Creek Wayside (Mile 18). The finish is at Alpine Creek Lodge, which is also the start location for the Denali 100K.
Race format allows crew-supported entries; runners may also start without a crew if they pre-arrange pickup in case of a drop. Drop bags and pacers are permitted at the Clearwater Creek aid station; no bikes or dogs are allowed during pacing. Mandatory runner equipment includes a buff, sufficient water, 200 calories of energy sources, and a visible bib. Pacers must carry similar basic gear and a visible pacer bib.
