Elkhorn Crest 50
The Elkhorn Crest 50 is an ultra running event held in Sumpter, Oregon, featuring two main distances: a 50-mile race and a 50K. The 50-mile course traverses the Elkhorn Mountain ridgeline through sub-alpine forests and grasslands, offering stunning panoramic views of Baker Valley, the Wallowas, and the Blue Mountains. With an average elevation above 7,200 feet, runners face about 10,500 feet of climbing and nearly 11,000 feet of descent over 53 miles on a mix of smooth single track and technical rocky sections.
The 50K starts in Bourne, Oregon, sharing part of the 50-mile route and includes climbs to Lost Lake and Summit Lake, with significant elevation changes. The event promotes sustainability by being cupless and requires mandatory gear for safety due to the mountain environment. Proceeds benefit the Baker City high school cross country and track team.
