Course, access, and ruck division rules
The course starts and finishes at the Virginia War Memorial and follows city streets to the river, crosses a pedestrian bridge to circle Belle Isle, uses a wooden bridge turnaround, and returns via Brown’s Island Way. Participants will encounter some hills, paved sidewalks, and gravel paths. Strollers and dogs are permitted.
The ruck division requires competitive rucks to meet prescribed additional weight: females at least 25 lb, males at least 35 lb. Weighted vests and ruck plate carriers qualify; law enforcement officers and firefighters in full turnout gear also qualify. Rucks are weighed before the event and must remain compliant. Participants who do not meet the minimum may still ruck and receive the patch and coin but will skip weigh-in and are not eligible for medals. Water bladders and children do not count as weight.
