Event overview
The 1st Day 5K is organized by Tri-Valley Front Runners and takes place on January 1, 2026 in Whitinsville, MA. The registration area is at the Gray Barn, 2 Elm Place, Whitinsville. The field is capped at 300 participants. The event is chip timed by Baystate Timing Services.
Course and logistics
The race uses a USATF certified, fast and flat 5K out-and-back course on Linwood Ave with closed roads. The route begins with a downhill running start on Main St west of the Whitin Community Center, continues through Memorial Square onto Linwood Ave, passes into the Northbridge High School parking lot, turns at the Linwood Apartments (New China Pacific restaurant) and returns to finish at Memorial Square on Linwood Ave. There is one aid station at the high school entrance that runners pass three times. Parking is available around downtown Whitinsville; the Gray Barn does not have adequate parking.
Entry and awards
Early registration fee is $30 through November 29; from November 30 through race day the fee is $35. Runners aged 70 and older may register free; donations are accepted. Registration includes a custom hat for the first 225 registered, hot chocolate, pizza, and a beer at the Gray Barn with proper ID. All registrations are final - no refunds. Division prizes are awarded to the top 3 overall male and female finishers and to the top 3 male and female finishers in each age group: Under 15, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80+. Age group awards are based on gun time and no duplicate awards are allowed. A $100 cash award is offered for new course records; current record times are 15:31 (male) and 17:04 (female).
