First Day 5K

Event overview

The First Day 5K takes place in Whitinsville, Massachusetts on January 1, 2026. The race uses a USATF certified, fast and flat 5K out-and-back course on closed roads along Linwood Avenue. The route begins near the Whitin Community Center, passes through Memorial Square, includes a loop through the Northbridge High School parking lot, turns at the Linwood Mill area, and returns to finish at Memorial Square. Runners pass a single aid station at the high school entrance three times.

Logistics and awards

Registration and bib pick-up are available the day before at The Gray Barn and on race day at The Gray Barn, with on-site registration available until shortly before the race. The field is capped at 300 participants. Entry fees are $30 for early registration through November 29 and $35 from November 30 through race day; participants aged 70 and over register free. Registration includes a custom hat for the first 225 registrants, hot chocolate, post-race pizza, and a beer at The Gray Barn with proper ID. Timing is chip based. Awards are given to the top three overall male and female finishers and top three male and female finishers in standard age groups; age group awards use chip time.
