Fort Smith Marathon, Half Marathon & 5 Leg Relay
The event offers three distances: a full marathon, a half marathon, and a five-leg marathon relay. It takes place in Fort Smith, Arkansas, with the start line at the Glass Pavilion, 100 N. B Street in downtown Fort Smith. The course runs through residential neighborhoods, along paved trails, and over rolling terrain, passing local landmarks and historic areas. Entry limits are listed for each distance: Marathon: 150, Half-Marathon: 350, Relay: 150. Race entries are capped and medals are limited.
Logistics, aid stations and relay exchanges
Packet pickup is at True Grit Running Co. Participants are required to pick up packets before race day unless they selected the Race Day Packet Pickup option. Scheduled packet pickup times are the Friday and Saturday before the race. A Shake Out Run is offered at the store before race weekend; the first 25 participants in that run receive a gift. Free public parking is available in lots around the start line and at River Front Park.
The marathon course uses a rolling course-closure policy and is designed to close on an 8-hour pace. Runners who exceed cutoff times at checkpoints will be removed from the course and shuttled back to the start. Aid stations provide water, Gatorade, basic first-aid supplies, and portable toilets at some locations. Marathon aid stations 5 through 11 supply nutrition items including peanut butter pretzels, gummy bears, GU packets, Oreos, Fig Newtons, pickles, and peanut butter crackers. Relay exchange points are listed at about mile 5.3, mile 10, mile 15, and mile 20.5. Pacers are available for a range of target finish times for both the marathon and the half marathon.
