Event overview
The Freebird 5K takes place on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Coldstream Dog Park / Legacy Trail, 1850 Pisacano Drive, Lexington, KY 40511. The race honors the life and legacy of a Lexington public servant and will benefit the Lexington Public Safety Museum, which preserves and exhibits the history of public safety agencies in Fayette County and promotes safety awareness and diversity.

The event also includes a virtual runner/walker option and a race volunteer category (no fee). The course is described as flat, fast, and scenic at Coldstream Park / Legacy Trail. Commemorative unisex poly/cotton shirts are available in sizes Sā4XL, with a no-shirt option. Awards will be given to the overall top three men and women and the top three men and women in standard age groups from 0-14 up to 70+. Presented awards include coffee mugs and tie dye socks.
