Event overview
The Galena Sky Trail Race is scheduled for May 16, 2026, held at Chestnut Mountain Resort in Galena, Illinois (8700 W Chestnut Mountain Road, Galena, IL 61036). The event is organized as an annual race on the third weekend of May. There are timed race options of four hours and eight hours on a looped trail course.
Course and format
The course uses the resort trail network that runs along ski hills and offers views across the Mississippi River toward Iowa and Wisconsin. Runners complete as many loops as they wish within the chosen time limit; overall standings are based on total mileage. Timing determines mileage, and ties are broken by who reached the mileage first. A shorter loop becomes available later in the day; only full loops completed before the event cutoff count.

Entry, services and awards
Entry includes a race shirt, a finisher medal described as a heavy metal 3-D "Warrior" medal, and a finisher meal. Early bird pricing applies through January 1, 2026 at $89. Extra meal tickets are offered for participants and guests. Awards include overall male and female 1st–3rd places and 10-year age-group awards. A best costume prize for male and female is also listed. The race has a rollover policy with options for transferring entry credits based on notice deadlines and a volunteer-for-credit option.
