Gopher Weedon Trail Run
The Gopher Weedon Trail Run is an 8K trail race held at Weedon Island Preserve in northeast St. Petersburg, Florida (1800 Weedon Dr NE, 33702). The course covers about 4.9 miles of natural trails through mangroves, salt marsh and Florida scrub, with dirt and boardwalk sections and frequent views of Tampa Bay.
Runners may glimpse wildlife such as the gopher tortoise, along with relic Indian mounds and dune ridges from early inhabitants. Proceeds benefit the Friends of Weedon Island, Inc., supporting environmental preservation and education at the preserve. Registered participants receive a technical race shirt, professional timing and results, awards, refreshments, and access to educational and cultural activities at the Weedon Island Cultural and Natural History Center.
