Event overview
The Grind on the Grid Backyard Ultra is scheduled in Wingate, IN, at 3272 East New Richmond Road. Registration for the event closes on May 7. Organizers plan for a field size of up to 100 runners and will allow tent or canopy setup the night before the event.
Course and rules
The course length is 4 miles 880 feet. It is laid out as an out-and-back with a short grass trail loop near the end. Running surfaces are approximately 0.5 mile gravel, 0.5 mile grass, and 3.167 miles of road with shoulders. The starting corral is sized to fit the entire field and remains the same size throughout the event; portapotties will be located near the corral.
The event follows a backyard ultra format: each loop must be completed within an hour and loops start precisely one hour apart. Competitors must start at the bell; no late starts are allowed. Except for restrooms, competitors may not leave the course during a loop. No non-competitors are allowed on the course, and eliminated runners may not re-enter the course. Personal aid is not allowed during a loop, though common aid stations are permitted. Artificial aids, including trekking poles, are prohibited. Organizers will track which runners finish each loop but will not provide official individual loop timing. The winner is the last person to complete a loop; if no one completes one more loop than others, there is no winner. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
