The Heat the Streets Run & Walk for Warmth takes place on Saturday, March 7, 2026, in Aksarben Village, Omaha, NE (1911 S. 67th St.). Event options include:
- Timed 10K
- Timed 5K
- 2-Mile Walk (untimed)
- Virtual Run/Walk
Registration opens November 28, 2025. Listed entry fees are $35 for the 10K, $30 for the 5K, $25 for the 2-mile walk, and $30 for the virtual option. Vendors will be on site and local businesses in Inner Rail and Aksarben Village are listed as part of the event area. Awards are planned for overall male and female winners in the 5K and 10K and for age groups in both timed events. Virtual participants are asked to complete their registered distance on March 7 in their neighborhood, on local trails, or on a treadmill; virtual entrants are not eligible for swag or awards. Registrations are non-refundable. Strollers are permitted. Pets and service dogs are allowed with adherence to city leash ordinances.
Purpose and beneficiaries
Since 2007 the event has been organized by Metropolitan Utilities District and Omaha Public Power District. Proceeds benefit local utility assistance programs. Funds are administered by Dollar Energy Fund, Inc., and are split between M.U.D.’s Home Fund and OPPD’s Energy Assistance Program to provide assistance to customers in listed counties in the region.
