Awards are given to the first male and female finishers overall, and to first-place male and female finishers in age groups: 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 and over. The event benefits Hospice of Acadiana, which the organizer describes as the only nonprofit hospice in the area and states it has served over 30,000 patients and their families. Hospice of Acadiana also provides free grief counseling to community members, including those whose loved ones were not hospice patients.
