Hone Quarry Ultra - Dayton, VA
The Hone Quarry Ultra is a trail endurance race that begins and ends at Briery Branch in the Shenandoah Valley and enters the George Washington National Forest near the Hone Quarry Recreational Area. The course features cliff walls, open meadows, single-track sections, scenic vistas, and several waterfalls. Participation is limited to 125 runners per Forest Service permit. Because of remote access, crews and pacers are not allowed. Drop bags are permitted at Union Springs (mile 12.7), HQ (mile 19.5), and Big Hollow (mile 29.2).
Distance, elevation and logistics
The listed distance is 41.4 miles with about 8,000 ft of ascent and 8,000 ft of descent. The race uses six fully stocked aid stations and has a 13 hours 15 minutes cutoff. Podium awards are given to the top three male and female finishers, with prize money of $125 for first, $100 for second, and $75 for third.
