Event overview
The Honest Abe Trail Run takes place on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at Lincoln State Park in Lincoln City, Indiana. The event offers multiple distances:
- Marathon
- 14K
- 5K
The primary trail course is a loop encircling the park: the marathon is three loops and the 14K is one loop. The 5K uses paved and gravel roads. The trail course is mainly double-track with some gravel sections and a few road crossings.
Logistics and services
Registration is handled through RunSignUp with no cap on entries; early and late pricing and an online close date are specified. Entry fees vary by distance and registration timing. All events have official time limits; anyone taking longer than seven hours will receive a DNF in the official results. Marathoners who have not begun their third loop by the five-hour mark will also be recorded as DNS/DNF and no one may begin a third loop after five hours. The event will officially end at 2:30 p.m. Central Time.
There are two aid stations: at the start/finish and at the midpoint of the loop (4.3 miles), stocked with water, Gatorade, bananas, and snacks; there is no aid on the 5K route. Marathon drop bags are allowed and will be set out at miles 9.1 and 17.7 in an area exposed to the elements. Awards go to the top two male and female finishers in each race; marathon finishers receive a small environmentally friendly memento. Parking is at the Lincoln Amphitheatre; park vehicle entry fees apply ($7 Indiana tags / $9 out-of-state). Camping, cabins, and nearby town lodging are noted. Volunteer help is requested for the full duration of the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
