HRCA Backcountry Wilderness Half Marathon : November 8, 2025, Lone Tree, CO
The event is the 17th annual Backcountry Wilderness Half Marathon, a trail race of 13.1 miles held in Highlands Ranch on Saturday, November 8, 2025. The course is a single loop that uses the Douglas County East/West trail and trails in the Highlands Ranch Community Association Backcountry Wilderness Area.
Course, amenities and rules
The course is 100% dirt, gravel, and singletrack and includes mountain views and possible wildlife sightings. There are four on-course aid stations offering water; participants are encouraged to bring personal hydration systems to reduce waste. Trail conditions in November may include mud, snow, or ice; the race proceeds in most weather but may be postponed if trails are unsafe. Two cut-off checkpoints are in place, including one near Grigs Rd Pavilion at about 8.9 miles and one at the finish. Dogs and strollers are strictly prohibited.
All entrants receive a long sleeve technical race shirt, custom bib, and custom finisher medal. Post-race items include a free pancake breakfast and post-race beers. Prize money for top three overall male and female finishers is listed as $400, $200, and $100 respectively. Race day packet pickup is available outside Rocky Heights Middle School.
