Hurl Elkhorn
HURL Elkhorn is a challenging trail running event held in the rugged Elkhorn Mountains near Helena, Montana. It offers three race distances: a 50-mile ultra, a 50K, and a 13.1-mile half marathon, all featuring technical single-track trails, primitive jeep roads, and forest service roads with no pavement. The courses showcase spectacular Montana backcountry with significant elevation gains—up to 13,400 feet for the 50-mile race—and maximum elevations near 9,000 feet.
Runners experience remote, roadless terrain with wildlife sightings including deer, elk, moose, bears, and mountain goats. Aid stations are well stocked, and the event emphasizes a tough but scenic mountain trail running experience. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
