The Hurricane Creek race takes place Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Joseph City Park in Joseph, Oregon. Distances offered are:
- Half Marathon
- 5 Mile
- 5K
- 1 Mile Kids Run
The event is organized by Runners of the Sage under a special use permit from the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest. The organizer states the mission is to encourage active lifestyles and to support Wallowa County; the event also helps raise funds for the Wallowa Land Trust. Awards will be given to the top three male and top three female overall finishers in the Half, 5 Mile, and 5K. Each Half Marathon finisher receives a finisher medal.
Courses and logistics
The Half Marathon is an out-and-back route that starts at about 4,200 ft elevation and climbs to about 5,100 ft. The first 3 miles are paved, the next 6 miles are maintained dirt road, and the final 3 miles return to paved surface. Water or aid stations are located near mile 3, mile 6.5 (Hurricane Creek Trailhead) and mile 10. The 5 Mile is an out-and-back covering the first 2.5 miles of the Half course, with a water station at the turnaround. The 5K covers the first 1.55 miles out and back, with a water station at the turnaround.
Packet pickup is available Friday, May 22 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at Quickhatch Provisions and on race day at Joseph City Park. The organizer notes that weather can be unpredictable and recommends preparing for rain, sun, wind, or snow. Registration has staged pricing and online registration closes in mid May.
