John Colter Run
The John Colter Run is a rugged 7.5-mile trail race held at Missouri Headwaters State Park near Three Forks, Montana. The course starts with 1.5 miles on paved/gravel roads, followed by 5.5 miles of challenging trails reminiscent of the terrain from the Lewis and Clark era. Unique features include two railroad crossings—one with a rare train stoppage for safe passage—and two water crossings through mud and the Gallatin River, requiring runners to navigate waist-deep water.
Limited to 300 participants, the race honors John Colter’s historic escape and offers prizes, a commemorative shirt for finishers, and a festive post-race barbecue with live music. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
