John Colter Run
The John Colter Run is a rugged 7.5-mile trail race held at Missouri Headwaters State Park near Three Forks, Montana. This classic event retraces the historic escape of John Colter from Blackfoot Indians, featuring a challenging course with about 1.5 miles on paved/gravel roads and 5.5 miles on rough, cross-country trails. Runners encounter two railroad crossings, including one where train traffic is halted for safe passage, and two water crossings with potentially waist-deep water and mud.
The race is capped at 300 participants and offers unique markers like rock cairns, flags, skulls, and beer bottles. A festive post-race BBQ with live music and prizes completes the experience. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
