John Colter Run

The John Colter Run is a 7.5-mile trail race held at Missouri Headwaters State Park near Three Forks, Montana. Scheduled for September 20, 2025, the race commemorates John Colter’s legendary escape from Blackfoot Indians. The course features a mix of paved roads and rugged trails, including water crossings and railroad tracks, with challenging terrain reminiscent of Lewis and Clark’s expedition.

Participants can compete for prizes, including a special chase to beat John Colter to the Beaver Dam. The event concludes with a post-race barbecue, live music, and awards. Limited to 300 runners, registration opens in April 2025. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
