About the race
The Kick Out Mesothelioma 5-Miler & 2.5 Mile Walk, held annually in Portland, Maine, honors the memory of John W. Griffin, a pipefitter and Navy veteran who passed away from mesothelioma. The event features a point-to-point 5-mile race starting at Cutter Street and Eastern Promenade, finishing near the Sewage Treatment Plant on Marginal Way.
The 2.5-mile walk begins and ends at the Bayside Trail entrance by the same plant. Participants pick up packets at Fleet Feet Maine Running. The race supports mesothelioma research, offers cash prizes for top finishers, age group awards, and team competitions.
A post-race party with free pizza and drink specials is held nearby. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
