The event is organized by LASAA. LASAA’s stated mission is to provide athletic events for its members, who are Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department employees and other law enforcement personnel, to promote health, fitness, and camaraderie. The Mug Run series began in 1993 with mainly law enforcement participants and an average of 10 runners; it later opened to the general public and has grown to more than 300 participants.
