Last Buckeye Standing Backyard Ultra
The Last Buckeye Standing Backyard Ultra is a backyard-style ultra run held at Alum Creek State Park in Lewis Center, Ohio. The event uses a repeated loop format: runners must complete a 4.167 mile loop within 60 minutes. A new loop begins every hour and runners who do not return within the hour or who fail to start the next loop are eliminated. The last person to complete a loop is the winner; all other competitors are recorded as DNF. The event is part of the Lazarus Lake official sanctioned events.
Course, logistics and rules
The course runs on the Alum Creek Hiking Trail along the Alum Creek Reservoir. The loop uses grass ski paths and single-track trails with moderate elevation changes of about 100-200 ft per loop. Trails are generally dry and runnable in August, though rain can create mud in low spots. Headlamps are recommended for night loops; solar landscape lights will be placed on the trail but are not a substitute for a personal light. Water and a limited supply of prepackaged food items will be available at the start/finish area. There are restrooms at the Galena Boat Ramp parking area and portable toilets on course. Tents may be set up the evening before the event; parking is at Galena Boat Ramp Parking Area off Africa Road with requests to use single-vehicle spaces. Volunteers receive a race t-shirt and a 25% discount code for another trail race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
