Last Buckeye Standing Backyard Ultra
The Last Buckeye Standing is a backyard ultra held at Alum Creek State Park near Lewis Center, Ohio. Runners repeat a 4.167 mile loop each hour. Each loop must be completed within one hour and runners must be at the start to begin the next loop. A runner who does not complete a loop in time or who misses the next start is eliminated. The winner is the last person to complete a loop; all other finishers are recorded as DNF and there is no second place if no one completes an extra loop.
Course, rules and logistics
The course uses the Alum Creek Hiking Trail and runs along the Alum Creek Reservoir on grass ski paths and single-track trail. Elevation change is described as moderate, about 100-200 ft per loop. Trails are generally dry in August but may have rain and mud in low spots. Night loops require personal lighting; the organizer will place some solar landscape lights on parts of the trail. Water and a limited supply of prepackaged food will be available at the start/finish area. No crewing or outside aid is allowed during a loop, and non-competitors are not allowed on the course. Tents may be set up Friday evening and parking is available at the Galena Boat Ramp parking area off Africa Road. Registration opens December 1, 2025.
