Leaky Hourglass Ultra
The Leaky Hourglass Ultra is a unique Last Man Standing ultramarathon held near Half Way, Missouri, about 20 miles north of Springfield. The race features a challenging 4.167-mile out-and-back loop on a chip-sealed rural highway with rolling hills and approximately 250 feet of elevation gain per lap. Each lap must be completed within a decreasing time cutoff, starting at 60 minutes and reducing by one minute each subsequent lap, until only one runner remains.
Aid stations provide a variety of fuel and snacks, with a manned station at the start/finish and an unmanned station at the turnaround. The course is not closed to traffic, requiring runners to run facing traffic and use headlamps after dark. Primitive camping is available on site, and nearby hotels offer additional accommodations.
