Course and logistics
The half marathon course starts on Lake Shore Drive near the city beach and heads north toward Ludington State Park, turning right onto Piney Ridge Road near mile 2. The route includes about 2 miles of paved rolling hills between Lake Michigan dunes and Hamlin Lake, then about a 1.8 mile trail through mature forest with some technical sections. Runners descend a sand dune, cross Hamlin dam, pass through the State Park and return south along Lakeshore Drive for roughly 6 miles to a finish at the city beach. Aid stations with Gatorade and water are placed approximately every mile up to the trail entrance and resume after exiting the park near mile 7. There are no port-a-johns on the course. Post-race refreshments are provided in a finish-area tent. The 1 Mile Fun Run is timed and shows results at the finish but will not post official results.
