Macedonia Trail Race : Overview
The Macedonia Trail Race is organized by Steep Endurance at Macedonia Brook State Park in Kent, Connecticut. The event is scheduled for September 7 and is in its seventh year. Three distances are offered:
- 12K
- 25K
- 50K
The 25K is part of the Blue Blazed Trail Running Series in Connecticut.
Course, aid and logistics
The 12K starts next to the main pavilion and begins with about 0.4 mile on the road before entering the blue-blazed single track in a counter-clockwise direction. The route includes a sustained climb, a major descent just over 2 miles in, technical single-track sections, a climb up Cobble Mountain before mile 5 with a western viewpoint, and a final descent back to Macedonia Brook Rd. The 25K is two loops of the 12K plus a short out-and-back and has about 3,500+ ft of elevation. The 50K is a three-loop course using additional park trails, includes three climbs of Cobble Mountain, and has about 7,000+ ft of elevation.
Aid stations provide water, electrolyte drink, and typical food items; the race is cupless so runners must carry their own hydration vessel. An aid station is located at Weber Road on the 12K loop and there is an aid station near the start/finish at the end of each loop. Race headquarters are at the pavilion; parking is in nearby gravel or grassy areas and parking on Macedonia Rd is not permitted. Entry fees are nonrefundable and nontransferable. Rules include no littering, following the marked course, and no alcohol or smoking in the park. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
