Event overview
The Med Bow Rail Marathon & Half Marathon is organized by the Friends of the Medicine Bow Rail Trail. The event offers a marathon and a half marathon on the Medicine Bow Rail Trail and is open to all entrants. Races are timed, supported by staffed aid stations, and finish at Lake Owen near Albany, WY. All participants receive a race souvenir and finishers are awarded a finisher medal. Proceeds support trail upkeep and improvement.
- Marathon - follows the Rail Trail end-to-end, passes briefly into Colorado.
- Half Marathon - follows the northern portion with two loops around Lake Owen.
Course and logistics
The Medicine Bow Rail Trail is a 21-mile gravel pathway through the Medicine Bow National Forest in the Snowy Range mountains. The trail is a gently graded, wide gravel path that averages 8,926 feet in elevation. The marathon course covers the full trail and finishes at a mountain lake; the half marathon combines trail sections with loops around Lake Owen. The event is staffed at five aid stations and has a start/finish area at Lake Owen. Course maps and additional event details are provided by the organizer.
