Event details
The event is a Half marathon held in late May with start and finish at Mine Hill Distillery in Roxbury, Connecticut. Parking is limited at the distillery with additional offsite parking nearby. Race headquarters are near the start/finish by the old train station platform. The organizer states there are no refunds and registrations or bibs are not transferable.
Course
The course uses paved and dirt roads and includes sustained climbing and downhill sections. It begins near Mine Hill Distillery, follows Route 67 for about 3/4 mile, then turns onto Sentry Hill Road and onto the soft dirt of Judds Bridge Road. Runners cross Judds Bridge, pass a farm, and continue via Walker Brook Road. At about 3.7 miles the route climbs Shinar Mountain Road for roughly one mile, transitions to Lower Church Hill Road, then a steep downhill and a 1/2 mile climb on West Church Hill Road that reaches the highest point near the halfway mark with about 250 feet of gain. The second half of the course trends downhill back toward the distillery, follows Walker Brook Road beside a brook, retraces earlier roads, and finishes by running downhill next to the Shepaug River before returning to Mine Hill Road and the distillery.
Aid, awards and race rules
There are three aid stations offering water and electrolyte drink. The event is cupless; runners must carry their own hydration bottle, pack, or cup. Finishers receive a specially designed finisher medal from Ragged Cuts and a finisher award; additional awards are given to the top three overall male and female finishers. Race rules note no littering, mandatory course following, and that most of the course is open to traffic. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
