Event overview
The Mountain Man Memorial March is scheduled for the weekend of April 10-11, 2026 in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. The event is organized as the 19th annual edition and is run by a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit incorporated in Tennessee. A Gold Star Family Ceremony is planned for Friday, April 10, 2026 in the Mills Auditorium at the Gatlinburg Convention Center. An opening ceremony will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026 and winners of run and march events will be recognized and awarded during the day. Organizers partner with Legacies Alive and other local sponsors; a free post-race hot meal is provided thanks to that partnership.
Race format and course
The event offers both run and march options, plus virtual participation. Distances include:
- 26.2 mi - full marathon (run and march)
- 13.1 mi - half marathon (run and march)
- 6.2 mi - 10K run (including virtual option)
- 3.1 mi - 5K run (including virtual option)
March entries are offered as individual or team (five members) and are divided into civilian and military categories. Military entries require affiliation with a military organization. March categories include Heavy and Light classes with uniform and rucksack weight requirements. The route starts and finishes at Pi Beta Phi Elementary School (125 Cherokee Orchard Rd, Gatlinburg, TN) and goes into the Smoky Mountains on paved and gravel roads with uneven terrain, flat stretches, rolling hills and steep climbs. Water, snacks, medical aid and support staff will be positioned on course. Registrations are online only and pre-race packet pick-up details will be published closer to the event.
