About the race
The Ocotillo Trail Endurance Challenge is a timed endurance event held in Carlsbad, New Mexico, set in the scenic Southwestern Chihuahuan Desert near the Living Desert Zoo & Gardens. Participants can choose from 1-hour, 4-hour, or 8-hour solo challenges, or join 4-hour and 8-hour relay teams. The race consists of completing as many 2-mile out-and-back loops on the Ocotillo Trail as possible within the chosen time frame.
The trail features about 229 feet of elevation gain and includes an aid station at the halfway point. The event welcomes runners, hikers, ruckers, and walkers, offering a supportive atmosphere for those aiming to complete longer distances or ultras. Proceeds benefit a local Carlsbad charity.
