Point Mugu Trail Run : Malibu, CA
The event is Race #3 of the SoCalTrail "Trail ½ Series" (six half-marathons in 2026). It takes place at Point Mugu State Park, starting at the Ray Miller Trail Head in La Jolla Canyon near 9000 W. Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu. The event offers the following distances:
- 13.3 miles - Half-Marathon, 2,150 ft gain
- 6.9 miles - 10k, 1,240 ft gain
Course
The course ascends about 3 miles of ocean-view switchbacks from the Ray Miller Trail, follows the Overlook Fireroad, and drops into Sycamore Canyon via the Backbone Trail. The middle section includes about 2 faster miles before a final climb on the Fireline Trail that returns runners to the Ray Miller downhill finish. The 10k course turns around at the top of the Fireline.
Features and logistics
The event is cupless. Entries include a soft race shirt, unique finisher medals, and free course photography. On-site amenities include a beer garden (21+), a vegan-friendly taco breakfast, sports massage by Vision For Enrichment, finish line announcers and music, sponsor giveaways, same-day results, and professional medical support. Parking along Pacific Coast Highway is free with a short walk to the start; limited on-site parking may be available for purchase. Volunteers can earn race credits at a rate of $15 per hour, transferable to others, and receive event swag and meals. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
