Event overview
The Polar Plunge & Run takes place Saturday, February 21, 2026 in Kure Beach, NC at the Kure Beach Pavilion, 105 Atlantic Avenue. The event combines running and a cold-water plunge in the Atlantic Ocean. Live music, vendors, food trucks and games are scheduled as part of the event.

Participants may run or walk the 5K or 1 Mile, or choose to plunge without running.
Course, logistics and fundraising
The course runs from the boardwalk through neighborhoods and parks. The course is flat and is stroller, wheelchair and dog friendly. Parking is available on legal street spots in surrounding blocks; parking fees may apply. Registration shirt guarantee requires registration by January 15, 2026 and shirts must be collected at packet pickup or on race day; registrants after January 20 may be limited to remaining sizes. Fundraising supports Special Olympics New Hanover County, which offers year-round sports training in 27 sports for more than 1,000 athletes and relies on private and corporate support and volunteers to provide services at no cost to athletes and families.
Awards and finishers
All 1 Mile and 5K finishers receive a finisher medal. 5K awards include top 3 overall male and female, and top 3 male/female in age groups: 10 & under, 11-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
