Event
The Pyramid Rock Run takes place on December 6, 2025, at Red Rock Park near Church Rock, NM. The race distance is 7 km. The event is a fundraiser and all proceeds go to the Rehoboth Christian High School Track team. Because this is a fundraiser, refunds will not be given.
Course
The course starts and finishes in a low, mostly flat drainage plain just above the Rio Puerco riverbed, located about 1 mile to the south. Terrain includes sand, clay, and sandstone slick rock with sections that require precise footing. Large rock cairns mark much of the route.
From the start, runners encounter sand and clay before reaching slick rock. At about 0.6 miles the trail climbs a slick rock face with steps cut into the stone. Shortly after, the route levels onto an off-camber sandstone strata and follows cairns toward the back of the drainage. Around 1.3 miles the course leaves the slick rock to climb over a finger, then descends onto slick rock in a new drainage. At about 1.9 miles the main climb to Pyramid Rock begins, rising roughly 700 ft over nearly 0.9 miles. The final 0.25 miles of that climb use switchbacks that are also part of the descent. The descent is often sandy and steep and includes sections with stone or wood stairs. Near 3.9 miles the route returns to mixed slick rock for about 0.5 miles, and the last 0.3 miles are a mix of sand and clay-dirt road to the finish.
