Event overview
The Route 66 UltraRun is the 4th annual running event that follows historic Route 66 across northern Arizona. The full course length is 140 miles. Runners have 60 hours to complete the route with no intermediate cutoffs. The race starts in Seligman with a rolling, Indy-style first mile that invites runners, crew, volunteers, and community members to run together. The finish is at Topock66. The event includes an awards banquet after the race with food, drink coupons, and live music.
Race divisions and logistics
There are three divisions: Crewed Runners, Journey Runners, and Relay Teams.
- Crewed Runners must complete the full 140 miles with support from at least two and no more than four crew members; two Crewed Runners may share a crew if they remain together.
- Journey Runners complete the full 140 miles without a crew and must be self-supported for up to 20 miles at a time; mandatory equipment is required. Aid for Journey Runners is provided at time stations in Peach Springs (37 miles), Kingman (87 miles), and Oatman (115 miles), with additional mobile aid at approximately 17, 57, 77, 100, and 127 miles.
- Relay Teams of 3 to 6 people share the 140 miles with no set leg distances; team members arrange transitions and support. Three-person teams must remain together for the entire route.
Finishers in the Crewed, Journey, and Relay divisions receive a finisher medal and a unique annual finisher shirt; Crewed and Journey finishers also receive a belt buckle and compete for the traveling trophy, the Andy Payne Cup. Registration is limited by division. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
