Rust Buster 5K and USATF Nebraska Open 5k Road Championship : event details
The Rust Buster 5K is scheduled for January 1, 2026, in Waterloo, Nebraska. The course is a 5K (3.1 miles) laid out as a flat, scenic, closed-loop that measures 1.5 miles per lap at Two Rivers State Park. The event carries the USATF Nebraska Open 5k Road Championship designation and posts participant results automatically on race day when a social account is connected.
Winter Fitness Series, awards, and logistics
The race is the first event in the Winter Fitness Series, which also includes the Full Wolf Moon 5K and the Valentine’s Day 5K. Participants who complete all three races in the series receive a special commemorative medal. Proceeds support the USATF Nebraska Association Long Distance Running (LDR) Program. Event logistics note parking will be directed next to the cabooses just inside the park and a 2025 Nebraska Game and Parks vehicle permit is required for park access during the series.
