Course, logistics and rules
The courses follow the Rainbow Trail in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. The 100-mile cut-off is 38 hours. Aid stations are described as well stocked; drop bags are allowed at Music Meadows and, for those who access them, at Horn Creek and Venable. Crews and pacers have specified access rules: pacers are permitted for the 50-Mile, 100k, and 100-Mile at listed aid stations and are not permitted for the 8-Mile, 27k, or 50k. Each 100-mile entrant may have one crew vehicle with restricted access to Horn Creek and Venable; crew lot splitting may be used if more than 25 crews attend.
Camping is allowed with limits on trailers (under 12 feet); sleeping in vehicles is permitted free of charge, and tent campers must reserve space. The event requires permits from the U.S. Forest Service (San Isabel National Forest - San Carlos Ranger District) and two private landowners. The organizer notes highly variable mountain weather, with an average high around 70°F and average low around 35°F. All finishers receive a unique finisher award; official 100-mile finishers receive a Sangre de Cristo 100-mile belt buckle. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
