Shenandoah Epic Adventure Race : April 11-12, 2026, Bentonville, VA
The Shenandoah Epic is a 24-hour adventure race held at Downriver Canoe Company, 884 Indian Hollow Rd, Bentonville, VA 22610. The event offers entries for Soloist, 2-person, 3-person, and 4-person teams. Packet pickup and bike drop are scheduled the day before the race at the same location. Registration fees vary by tier; early and regular pricing apply for team members and soloists. All racers must have a USARA race-day membership or proof of membership (one-day membership fee $8 or one-year $35).
Course, equipment and rules
The course combines paddling, trekking, and mountain biking with the following planned distances:
- 25 miles of river paddling
- 25-35 miles of trekking
- 50-60 miles of mountain biking
Boats and flotation devices are supplied: soloists receive kayaks, two- and three-person teams receive one canoe, and four-person teams receive two canoes. Outside canoes or kayaks are not permitted; outside paddles and PFDs are allowed. Maps are provided on waterproof paper at scale 1:24,000 with UTM grid markings; teams receive two map sets and soloists receive one. No GPS devices are allowed. Any-style bike may be used but the same bike must be used throughout the race; no eBikes. The event follows ARWS and USARA rules; mandatory gear may be checked randomly and penalties apply for missing items. Prizes are awarded to the top three finishers in each division and special cash awards are offered for KOM times. A post-race brunch and awards are provided.
