Event overview
The Sheriff’s Shootout is a lap-based endurance race held on October 18, 2025, in Montezuma County, Colorado. The event is organized by Dolores Bike Hostel and local community members. Runners choose between 6-hour and 12-hour race options. Both time options are open to solo runners; team divisions are also offered.
Course, format and support
The course is a one-mile loop with steep climbs, rocky descents, and rough footing. Runners complete as many laps as possible within their chosen time limit. Teams of two may compete in the six-hour race and teams of four may compete in the 12-hour race.
A central aid station is located on the loop and can be accessed after every lap. There is space for camping and spectating along the course and at the aid station. As night falls, a bonfire is lit near the central area. The course offers views of Mesa Verde and Sleeping Ute Mountain from its high points.
