The Skunk Ape trail race is held at the Santos Trailhead in the Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway near Ocala, FL. Distances offered:

  • 100 Mile
  • 50 Mile

The 50ish mile course is run as an out-and-back; 100 Mile entrants complete the course twice. The official overall time limit for each distance is 36 hours. The listed elevation gain for one loop is 1,562'; the 100 Mile total is approximately double that.

Course and support

The route follows the Florida National Scenic Trail and paved sections in the Cross Florida Greenway and Ross Prairie Wildlife Management Area. Trail surfaces include single-track, sand, roots, short climbs, and paved trail. Aid stations are staffed or unstaffed and are stocked with soda, pickles, gummy snacks, electrolyte powder, gels, chips, fruit, salt tablets, band-aids, and basic women’s hygiene items; hot food or coffee is expected at aid stations and glow lights are provided for night miles. Aid stations are spaced roughly between 3.8 and 7.14 miles apart on each leg. Drop bags are collected at the start and may be placed at 49th Avenue and Pruitt Trailhead for both distances, with an additional Ross Prairie drop-bag location for 100 Mile runners. Crew access is available at all aid stations. Packet pick-up occurs at the Santos Trailhead the evening before the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
