Skunk Ape 100 Mile Endurance Run : overview
The event takes place in the Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway near Santos Trailhead in Ocala, Florida. It offers the following distances:
- 100 Mile
- 50 Mile
The course goes along sections of the Florida National Scenic Trail and paved trails within the Cross Florida Greenway and passes through Ross Prairie Wildlife Management Area.
Course and logistics
The route is roughly a 50ish mile out-and-back; 100 Mile entrants complete the loop twice. Trail surfaces include single-track trail, sand, roots, short climbs, and some paved sections. Outbound and in-bound routes use different markings: pink ribbons in trees with reflectors for outbound, and pink flags at ground level with reflectors for in-bound.
Aid stations are positioned along the course and supply soda, gels, chips, fruit, salty snacks, bandages, and basic hygiene items. Hot food or coffee is expected at aid stations. Drop bags are collected at the start and may be left at specified aid stations; drop bags must be labeled and kept to a standard drawstring size. All aid stations allow crew access. Pacing rules: no pacers for the 50 Mile except for runners over age 60 or needing special assistance; 100 Mile runners may add pacers after 50 miles.
