Slickville 5k Coal Mine Climb & 2 Mile Fun Walk
The event is scheduled for August 8, 2026, in Slickville, PA (intersection of Rte 819 and Main Street). It offers the following distances:
- 5k (adult and youth 18 and under)
- 2 mile walk (adult and youth 18 and under)
Course and event details
The 5k follows a backcountry route with several hills and a final "coal mine climb" up the slate mound past the Slickville sign that overlooks the town. The 2-mile walk follows a gentler route through town for the first half and returns to the finish on the Westmoreland Heritage Trail near the run's final ascent. Early registration is stated to guarantee receipt of an event sports shirt in the preferred size. Entry fees listed are $25 for the 5k adult, $20 for the 5k youth, and $15 for each 2-mile walk category. After the run and walk, participants are offered a complimentary pancake breakfast with locally sourced maple syrup provided by the Slickville Community Church and Maple Lodge. The day also includes a car show, craft and food booths, children's activities, cow patty bingo, musical entertainment, and a fireworks display after dark. Registration opens March 29, 2026.
